BBQ Sauce

A sweet, tomato-free barbecue sauce.

Makes about 6oz.


  • 4 fl oz water
  • 1 stock cube (beef or chicken)
  • 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2oz dark brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp mushroom ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 3 drops Tabasco


  1. Stir stock into water. Bring to the boil.
  2. Add sugar and onion and stir. Add the rest of the ingredients and
    boil for a minute.
  3. Turn the heat down low, and simmer, stirring occasionally for
    10mins or until thickened.
